Oil on canvas. Title: Evening at De Heen.
Willem Cornelis Rip belongs to the best of the so-called ‘after bloom’ of The Hague School. He painted portraits, but focussed on landscapes, with a lot of attention for light and mood.
His strength lies in his sense of space and in his skies with a sun breaking through the clouds.
In 1895 he moved from Rotterdam to The Hague, where he became friends with Jozef Israëls. He regularly exhibited in Pulchri Studio.
